I guess third time is the charm... At least, with the Immortals After Dark series. I wasn't impressed with The Warlord Wants Forever and A Hunger Like No Other, the first two entries in the series, but now I understand what all the fuss is about. To be honest, I wasn't "feeling the love" in the first half of this book, but things got much better in the second half.

I enjoyed this book but not as much as Demon from the Dark. Kaderin the Cold Hearted is a vampire hunter. She meets Sabastian Wroth when dispatched to a villiage in Russia to take care of a vampire haunting a castle. Sabastain was unwillingly turned into a vampire centuries ago and has since avoided everyone because he sees no reason to live.

This story takes place during the Talisman Hie challenge which is similar to The amazing race. Competitors seek relics around the world to win the ultimate ...more

I had myself a Gone with the Wind moment just seconds ago.

The characters are just so d&*n thick headed. I can not tolerate medieval mentality that the hero impresses onto our leading lady. I hate this factor in any type of novel.
Now you wonder why I'm still reading this series. A second time no less. The magic and lore layout to this magical system. I have such a reverie to play a Gothic RTS.

I really enjoyed this, the second installment in the Immortals After Dark series. Sebastian and Kaderina were more likeable characters than the protagonists of the first book. They both had tortured pasts, having suffered great loss. Sebastian obviously felt compelled to have Katja, but wasn't overbearing about it. The Hie was entertaining and gave us an even greater glance of Bowen, further strengthening my interest in his book, the next in the series (and I've been told, the best one). ...more

This is the second in the Immortals after Dark series by Kresley Cole (after A Hunger Like No Other) and it is better than the first. I love the idea of the plot being split between the romance and the story of the Talisman's Hie - a supernatural scavenger hunt organised by Riora, the goddess of impossibility. The world is expanded with new races of creatures and lots of weird items on the list for the Hie.

The Hie adds a layer of action throughout the entire book, and I really enjoyed watching Kaderin and Sebastian compete, along with Bowen (a Lykae introduced in the previous book). Bowen's book (Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night) is next in the series and this one does a brilliant job of setting it up.

Unlike with the previous book I liked both lead characters from the very start. Sebastian is sweet and a bit of a nerd, while Kaderin pretty much exemplifies the idea of a kick-butt heroine. Sebastian isn't pushy or cruel like Lachlain, and he tells Kaderin that she is his Bride when they first meet. This book deals more with Kaderin's reluctance to fall for a vampire than the heroine being pursued, and I found it more enjoyable to read.

Oh, and the handy guide to creatures of the Lore (basically anything not human) at the back of the book has been expanded to include the new species introduced in this book.

All in all, this was an awesome read and I'm really looking forward to Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night.
