See that up there? Well, suffice it to say that J. R. Ward may have found her writing muse again. I think maybe that Rhage was whispering in her ear the whole time she wrote this and job well done.

I was transported back to the early BDB books when the voices of the characters connected with me the reader and the writing and cultural reference weren't OTT and overkill. Once I started reading I didn't want to put the book down, which made me happ ...more

I'm grading this one pretty generously because it was a lot of Rhage and Mary and I love them as a couple. I didn't really care for a lot of The King and I totally skipped The Shadows. For me the series is much improved without Trez & iAm, they're still around but no POV from them. I also have had to let go of this as a romance series. I pick it up when I'm in the mood for a vampire soap opera (not a dis - I grew up watching All My Children and GH - just it's a different read than a romance). It ...more

I've consistently rated the books in this series between 4 & 5 stars, including the previous book, The Shadows. But that ending ... well that ending scared me a little about reading this one. Prior to starting, I could see there were issues Mary & Rhage needed to address and, as Natalie noted, the series is taking a heavier UF slant over PNR ... so, no guarantee those issues would be resolved in this book. Anything could happen.
