I picked this up on a lark as I was rushing through the bookstore looking for a book to read on the plane home, and I was quite pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it quite a bit. This book feels like Jane Austen writing in a world where magic is a reality. The characters, particularly Ivy and Rafferdy, are very engaging, and their relationship is complex. brilliant book for anyone witha passion for magic and romance which doesn't take over the novel.
everyone should read it as the characters are superbly writtern and there stories entwined beautifully.
Beckett makes his world realistic and you wanting to live there yourself with the inconvenience of light times and carriage travel.

This is an excellent book. Many reviews compare it toJonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, this one is better.
