Somewhere along the way, King' s writing took a surreal turn. Her latest is more realistic than I Crawl Through It, more in the vein of Glory O'Brien. Sarah is a sixteen year old in the midst of an existential crisis. When something happens to her school art project, she leaves school to start wandering around looking for anything that might be an original idea. I don't really know how I feel about this book. I read it almost in one day, so was engaged and intrigued, but I never connected to any of the characters. I got frustrated and annoyed with Sarah continuously saying nothing is original, nothing ever happens and taking so long to open up about what happened in art club. (view spoiler) ...more

Sarah wants to be original. She wants to be an artist. She wants to understand her parents relationship. She wants to understand what happened to her brother. She has to remember but she can't. Then one day a younger version of herself appears and helps her regain her lost memories.

In classic AS KING fashion, this book is weird and thought provoking and looks at deep emotion from a uniquely removed perspective.
