I've now read this one and the next two in the Tiffany Aching series, and I must say that I really like them. The characters are funny and quirky, and crazy things are taken very matter-of-factly. Also, I love to say, "Waily waily waily!" Soooo much.

None of the other Tiffany books is as perfect as The Wee Free Men. I think if this was any other book, I would give in 5 stars, but in comparison to the first in the series, it's a 4. Still fabulous, but not life-changing the way I've always felt about the first. I liked it even more rereading than when I first read it (probably because when I first read it, I was massively disappointed it wasn't as wonderful as the first). I was actually pretty surprised to find that many elements I loved about ...more

Me to dh: "Terry Pratchett must have had the most interesting mother/aunts. He really nails a certain type of woman."

I love practical, active women, so Tiffany and the other witches certainly work for me. And dh loves the humor and plot. A win all around.

While a the Tiffany books are about a child, I think they work better as an adult book (or teen novel) about a child than a children's novel that adults can enjoy. In general, no matter how prodigious she is I still have to add +3 years to her
