While this was an amazing story I can't honestly say it was my favorite from Gail Carson Levine, especially when I first finished it. I read it when I was in middle school and the ending was a bit deep for me, and what I wanted to happen in the end didn't happen. I actually have recently reread the book, and I guess a few extra years of personal growth has led me to appreciate this story on a new level. What an awesome fairy tale! Magical and clever, moving but fun-loving. One of those lovely examples of children's literature being so well-written that it's a delight for adults too. A keeper!
