Okay, without going into the whole plot thing, I just have to say this book was two things: Surprising and exciting.
I was surprised because it wasn't like any other young adult book I had ever read and exciting because it was full of fast-paced action, and by action I mean fight scenes. Lots and lots of fight scenes.
I knew this book was going to be different when Katniss talked about the bobcat that started following her around. I expected it to become a pet....oh no, because she is concerned it ...more

I am so glad I finally read this! I loved it!
I loved the concept, the characters, the plot twists, the semi-romance.
I was actually surprised at the lack of over-the-top angst that I've been seeing in YA lately. I mean, you could rightfully expect there to be mountains of angst, considering kids are fighting to the death in the wilderness. BUT these kids have got some sense! I can't wait to get my hands on the other 2 books!

I read Catching Fire first, the second in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. But I was hooked. So now I’ve read the Hunger Games too and I can’t wait for the final volume.
Hunger Games is a young adult series set in a post-apocalyptic world where food and populations have shrunk, and government is centralized in a city that controls its outlying towns with poverty and fear. An earlier rebellion is mentioned but never quite described, and the authorities memorialize their victory with yearly t ...more

Yes I know I'm super late. *sigh*
I thought the story was amazing. I'm not used to reading dystopian novels, but the few that I have read have been really good so I know I need to look into this genre some more. I like the world building that takes place in this book. There is a good balance of character building and world building without making the beginning part of the story boring. I liked all of the characters in THG fairly well. Okay Peeta annoyed me during the first half of the book, but a ...more

Like so many others I saw similarities between "Battle Royale” and “The Running Man” two very good movies in there own right. Yet, this book for its familiarities also was so different. Here we have a girl being hunted by members from her own district as well as others. She is strong, sensitive and very smart. She understands the game and also what she needs to do to succeed. She is very capable of also playing to the audience and what they crave to see. Most of all I loved that Katniss and Peet ...more

This reminded me alot of Stephen King's The Long Walk. It was very good. I think Katniss really cared about Peeta and was torn with having to pretend at the romance. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
