After reading so much hype about this series I found myself to be a little disappointed with the first book. There was just no real emotion in this book. I didn't feel any chemistry between the hero and heroine. It semm to me like he was just pursuing her because she was his mate and he longed for one for so long that he was just happy to find her. All I felt from him was the need to get off after not having sex for 200 years. The heroine just seemed weak and clueless.

All I felt from him was the need to get off after not having sex for 200 years. The heroine just seemed weak and clueless.

I know the hero was suppose to be a supreme alpha, and I love me some alpha, but I found the hero's caveman tactics annoying and at some points barbaric. The heroine wasn't all that exceptional to me. She is a hybrid Valkyrie/Vampire raised by a coven of Valkyrie women. She has never had blood from the source only bagged blood and her family keeps her sheltered because they find her to be sensitive and weak. Even with all that information I still felt like I didn't have enough information to really form an attachment to her. The supporting character's, the valkyrie woman, came across as shrewish to me. I don't know about anyone else but if I was in a household full of shrieking woman I would go crazy, so I really don't know how any man would want to deal with that, no matter how beautiful the woman is. I know the rest of the books in the series is going feature the other women of the coven and I'm a little disappointed about that. Except for maybe the woman who can't be touched, I didn't find any of the other woman remotely likeable or interesting.

As I write this review I think I know what's missing with this book. There was no relationship building like other paranormal series. I mean there is some, but the author doesn't seem very good at tying everyone together so that as the series progress you feel like you know all the characters and actually wonder what will happen next. It's like she just throws them at you because there is going to be a book about them somewhere down the line. I think she made a mistake with using Emma as the heroine for the first full length novel in the series. To me IAD is like a female version of BDB and Emma is the JM of the story. The author should have made her stronger throughout the series and then gave her her own story later on. Also, I would have stuck with the storyline of the Horde trying to get their hands on the only living female vampire instead of killing that story so early in the series. That plot had potential. Now it's just going to be whole bunch of random scenerios that doesn't tie the series together.

This was a somewhat engaging story for what it was, but so far, not worth hype. I'm already fully vested so I will see the series through and hope it gets better. I want see if it is necessary to read this series in order. ...more
