Having just finished Book 1 in the series, the Black Dagger Brotherhood world was still very fresh in my mind when I read Lover Eternal, and I appreciated the differences in the two books (I find that sometimes PNRs fall into a formulaic trap, specifically with the "fated mates" aspect). The book started out great- I especially loved the development of John as a potential part of the brotherhood but when Mary and Rhage actually started interacting it became a pain to read. Mary turns out to be one of those annoying female leads that doesn't accept the heroe's love or desire to the point of delusion. The male characters in this series are awesome but if the female lead is annoying it ruins the whole book for me. ...more

To me, this is a beautiful love story not because Mary is a human with leukemia, not because she is able to soothe Rhage's dragon, but because of the way he totally proves his love at the end of the book.

I liked:
the relationship that developed between Rhage and Mary
the strength both characters showed in fighting their inner demons
learning more about the backgrounds of others in the Brotherhood
Butch - what can I say, I really like his character!

I almost don't want to post this because there is such a big following for these books... but... I found the story and the dialogue (and the characters) to be very repetitive, and their descriptions repetitive... and I could never quite get past their ridiculous names.
I would much rather stick with Sherrilyn Kenyon or Gena Showalter - the stories are great, interesting, and varied, and they compel to continue reading the series...
