I went back and forth with myself and the rating I wanted to give The Shape of Night by Tess Gerritsen. I have been a fan of Gerritsen's for years. Her Rizzoli and Isles series is quite intriguing and rather different from this title.
The Shape of Night is far and removed from Tess Gerritsen's medical and police procedural mysteries. Ava Collette attempts to escape the tragic past that haunts her in Boston to an idyllic, remote mansion in Maine off the coast where she actually does become haunted ...more

A gothic novel of reconciliation with the past. With The Shape of Night, Tess Gerritsen takes a break from medical thrillers and gives us a throwback to her Romantic Suspense Novels. The story is interesting, but in my opinion less refined than the authors recent novels.

It doesn’t take long for Ava to discover Brodie’s Watch has a past of its own and it’s not a good one. It includes several mysterious deaths and now she discovers a ghost, namely Captain Brodie’s. The captain visits her periodically at night leaving Av ...more

In Boston, a horrific tragedy occurs; an event that causes a woman by the name of Ava Collette to run away and secure herself in a basically unknown village located in Maine. It is there that she will hide . . . leaving the past behind in order to survive.
Unfortunately, although the old house in Brodie’s Watch seems like an isolated location where Ava can feel safe, what it really becomes is yet another location of violence that Ava cannot (or will not) walk away from.

Are there 2 Tess Gerritsen's? I will pick up anything by her, she's earned my trust. But after this I will definitely be reading the back of of the book again rather than just diving in. I'm used to her legal/mysteries and this was a paranormal romance. Is that a new genre that I wasn't aware of? The main character moves into an old 18th century sea captains house for the summer to finish her book. She ends of having some quite flavorful sex with his ghost. Yeah, exactly. What the heck!?
