My mom read a few of the Oz books to me when I was a kid, but I'd forgotten them for the most part. I had a lot of fun listening to this book again. It's a bit different from the movie. The flying monkeys work differently, and the story goes on for quite a while after Oz is revealed for a phony. The hammerheads and china people were fun surprises for me. Growing up, I saw the Wizard of Oz on television every year as it ushered in each Easter season. I've always meant to read the book. There are so many details not included in the movie, or scenes that were refashioned for a movie-going audience. The ruby slippers were in fact silver. They all visited a land of china figurines (supposedly this detail will be revived for the upcoming new film, "Oz, The Great and Powerful."
