This book was such a pleasure to read. I really felt like I was in Wonderland surrounded with the many curious things from everywhere. After reading this book I'm sure of two things, one being that I'm super excited to read Alice's Adventures In Wonderland (the original classic) and every retelling of this fabulous world out there. Second: I will never be looking at the queen of Hearts the same ever again.

After reading this book I'm sure of two things, one being that I'm super excited to read Alice's Adventures In Wonderland (the original classic) and every retelling of this fabulous world out there. Long before she was the terror of Wonderland—the infamous Queen of Hearts—she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.

I find that this story is rather sad because it tells of all the lies and betrayals a sweet girl had to endure before she was forced by all the horrors to become a nightmare herself. I was questioning from the start how on earth a lady like Catherine would ever be evil, she loved baking and she was ambitious, she was friendly and polite, she was delicate and courageous, so I asked myself the whole time how could she be the evil queen of hearts I know? It was impossible yet...with every page and every chapter I could see it happening. No one believed in her bakery and they all doubted her, they all pressured her to do something she did not want (her poor excuse of parents). Then there was marvelous Jest I loved that joker from our first encounter with him on the palace grounds and I rooted for them. It was all good and peaceful before things started to go downhill and finally almost at the last quarter of the book I see it all happening. I finally understood the title of the book, Heartless. What an accurate title indeed. Honestly I don't blame Cath, not one bit for becoming who she is and she has every right to treat everyone who was close to her the way she did because they were despicable.

The story, surprisingly, was loads of fun and laughs. I loved each and every riddle and poem posed in the story and I was fond with all the beautiful descriptions of all the sweets Cath made during the story. Ah what a dream it would have been to open Sweets and Tarts: The Most Wonderous Bakery in All of Hearts but I guess along with everyone else I have to accept the bitter truth behind her situation. Anyways I loved this amazing book by Marissa Meyer and she proofs to be one of the best writers out there for retellings. I cant wait to read more of her upcoming creations and I will forever be her humble fan. This is a MUST read btw ^-^ ...more

Okay first off, let me just say that Marissa Meyer is an incredible writer! I love her style and I am so impressed with the way she does scenery. Every detail meticulously laid out and planned. It's incredible. Her world building was phenomenal and character development superb.

So... I know what you are asking. "Why did I give it 4.3 stars?"

This book made me feel THE feels. My heart shattered into pieces when I reached the ending. Heck, there ain't no heart left! I'm HEARTLESS!! (Ya stupid pun, destroyed the moment) Don't get me wrong, I LOVEDDD that ending. It was beautiful, rich in romance and well, tragic. I shed one little, tiny, minuscule tear (ok maybe more than one. Wow. This book was (no pun intended) wonderful! The last quarter broke my heart. I knew what happened had to happen, but still, I was hoping for it to be better... I liked the Edgar Allen Poe references too. (Raven is based off of the raven in The Raven by Poe.) This makes me want to reread the original story. I loved it!
