I am sure that I've read this one before. It is in a compilation of stories that I received as a Christmas gift when I was a teenager (Five Complete Hercule Poirot Novels.)
In any case, it's been over 20 years since I read it, so I figured it was worth another shot. I so love her stories and her books are my favorites when I'm looking for a cozy mystery.
Enough time had passed since I'd read this one that even though I was sure I knew whodunit, I could not remember all of the details of the plot ...more

Lord Edgware Dies - Christie
Audio performance by Hugh Fraser
3 stars
Multiple red herrings and a twisty, turny plotline. It’s a possibly exaggerated portrait of a narcissistic, amoral, personality. But then again, maybe not. Upon rereading this book I remembered some of the details, but not enough to completely solve who killed lord edgware and why. So it was still intriguing. Poirot is in high form, making fun of English while messing it up, using Hastings' comments to trigger an idea that Hastings did not know he was triggering, and making all the pretty girls feel important. He does not fall for the red herring as many others did, including Japp.

When I want to clear my head from reading too much by any one author, I always pick up an Agatha Christie novel. They are short, quick reads that pack a lot in a little space. I really enjoy matching wits with M. Poirot! Even when I get the murderer right (like this time), I rarely get all the details. Another excellent read.
