I didn't enjoy this book much, but it was really good. I have seen some awful treatment of powerless people since I started work as a nurse. This book brought back those feelings of heart ache. I remember the very first patient I had as a student nurse was an elderly man. They gave report to us in his room and the nurse told us how he had severe dementia and was very uncooperative and belligerent. I absolutely LOVED this novel. I think that I finished it in two days! Incredibly well written, thought-provoking, poingient, just an over-all fantastic novel. I can absolutely see why it is a classic work of literature. There is such depth and honesty, as well as a question of ethics and human development, that make this novel a must for any book club discussion.
