Hello all! Starting up the monthly discussions for December 2017 book-of-the-month suggestions. This discussion is for the CLASSICS CATEGORY.

As a reminder, books that qualify for this category must have a publication date 1969 and before. If the book you wish to nominate was published in 1970 or after, please make your suggestion on the Modern Classics/Popular Reads thread.

Will start off by suggesting The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Sarah | 731 comments The Story of Walt Disney's Motion Picture Mary Poppins

The Pearl

To Kill a Mockingbird

Picking books that are waiting on my ever expanding shelf.

Cheryl is busier irl atm. (cherylllr) | 985 comments So, you don't mean the original Mary Poppins? It was very interesting, when I read it last year. Not like the movie.

I nominate A Sand County Almanac and Sketches Here and There by Aldo Leopold.

If it's truly ok to nominate more than one, I also nominate Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne.

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 731 comments Cheryl, I would like to read both, but i picked up this Walt Disney version in an antique store and would like to read it since it's on my shelf! I have a weakness for buying old books. Especially old school textbooks and primers from the first half of the 1900's!

Second to Nutcracker

Edited: to say second, not nominate. I somehow managed to miss Leesa's nomination of it

daniela (daniela_nieblina) | 337 comments I would like to nominate A Wrinkle in Time

I would have second the Story of Walt Disney, but I don't think I everyone could find the book in time. I have now added it on my TBR, tho!

Thanks, Carolyn, for catching it. We have already read A Christmas Carol as a group - if you would like to read, please nominate/second in the "bookshelf catch-up" nomination thread. Thanks, all!
