After watching the movie again and again, I decided that it was time to finally tackle the book. Having being disappointed with the stodgy/stilted/unwieldy nature of so many classics, this one was a real surprise and a delight.
For the most part the prose is still fresh and easy to follow and the story has all of the best aspects of a modern romantic comedy. I've heard that this may be the perfect novel and while that's a rather strong superlative, I can see why folks might thinks so. First publ ...more

I read and watch every good retelling and adaptation or re-imagination of it, whenever I come across one. I don't know what it is about this story that pulls me so. Is it the slow change of perception? Is it the combination of the progressing towards a great romance and realizing the need for respect and moralilty at the same time? A second reading of this brought the story into even better focus and I appreciate it more than the first time through. This really is a great book with a robust storyline that I'm sure will just get better and better with subsequent readings.

I finished Pride and Prejudice for my Dead Writers' Society Literary Birthday challenge author for December, Jane Austen. I feel like I know exactly what I'm going to get with Austen, knowing her novels so well without even having read many of them. And I mean that in a positive way: great comfort comes with reading Austen's novels, knowing that everything is going to work out in the end….
