This is a reread for me, but it's been many years.
I don't think I was as enamored this time around...at least with parts of it. I think I'd really give this 3.5 stars but I rounded up. I loved the beginning. Felt it started to drag after the church scene and stayed that way until Jane hears her name whispered. And it's a long period through there. It also seemed quite contrived and I just wasn't buying it. Perhaps I'm better leaving the gothic romances in the past when I was younger and more car ...more

This was an absolutely amazing novel that has secured it's place among my all time favorite novels. I would definitely recommend this as a must-read! Bronte does an excellent job mixing a gothic mystery with a passionate love story. Where other "classical romances" may become slow or insipid, this one pulls you into the story and makes you a part of the intense emotions that are swirling around.
