What I dislike about this book is that it contains, and perhaps started, the idea that scientists go around messing up with things they don't understand and end up hurting everyone.

What I find extremely funny is Victor, who is whiny and emotional and faints and gets sick for no good reason. English classics are full of women having the same problems, but for men who behave like that most books make excuses. Olen hiukan hämmentynyt tämän alkuperäisen tarinan rakenteesta. Kaikki se hirviökuvasto, joka Frankenstein-johdannaisissa on pääosassa, tulee tässä lausuttua lähinnä ohimennen, ja sitten kiirehditäänkin taas kertomaan päähenkilön päänsisäisestä kauhistelusta ja ympäri maailman ravaamisesta. Myös hirviön korkea äly ja empatiakyky sekä taito hankkia runsaasti sivistystä ja kielitaitoa todella lyhyessä ajassa hämmentää ja heikentää tarinan vetoa.

Odotin enemmän. Kirja ei ehkä ollut aivan huono, mutta ei kyllä kovin hyväkään. Typerä tapa kertoa tarina, jossa lukijalle puhutaan suoraan, sekä toistuvat Frankensteinin pyörtymis-, valitus- ja sairaskohtaukset ("Ai, taasko se oli useamman kuukauden vuoteenomana?") saivat minut pyörittelemään silmiäni. Kirja tuntui myös perustuvan yhden idean ympärille: "miten saan mahdollisimman paljon huutavaa symboliikkaa yhteen teokseen?"
