J.J. Liddy, the main character of Kate Thompson’s novel The New Policeman, has a problem: there never seems to be enough time in the day. In fact, there seems to be decidedly less time. With barely enough hours in the day for school and his music, J.J. has no time left over to contemplate the shocking revelation that his grandfather may have been a murderer. To make matters worse, this time problem seems to affect everyone in Kinvara.

Fun combination of magic, music, Irish legends and the idea that there is never enough time!

I thought this book was quite enjoyable. It reminded me somewhat of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, but lighter. I understand that there were lots of musical tie-ins, but question the idea of putting sheet music to the tunes between each and every chapter. Music, and fairies, and family, and Ireland. What a lovely, lovely read.

Read a few years ago and loved it. Enjoyed it this time through, but not quite as much as the first time. A lot of the plot had stayed with me, and that is rare now that I am in my 40's mostly I remember the plots of books I read when I was younger, but not so much the books I read now.

Still this is a great, quiet fantasy set in Ireland, and involving the fairy folk.

great book interesting fantasy/fairy/irish folktale connection. Each chapter ends with an irish song who's title corresponds with something in that chapter.

Not super adventure like Artemis Fowl, but more the folktale links are the focus. Interesting and different!

There seems to be less and less time in Kinvarra. People rush through their days and somehow night comes before things get done. JJ sets out to find where the lost time is going.
