Perhaps romantics make the best cynics. They feel how the world could and should be, but it keeps letting them down. These simple stories are wonderfully funny commentaries on that.

"The Happy Prince" is one of my favorite stories ever. I first read an abridged version in a childrens' book of animal stories.
