I would give this a 3.5 if could. It was a quick and easy read, I did find myself confused at one point about the characters...but that might be my fault since I read some after a few glasses of wine!!
Anita is an animator, that is, she can raise people from the dead, into zombies. She doesn't actually do much of that in this book, since she's asked by the master vampire of St. Louis to solve some vampire murders. As a fervent (FERVENT) Buffy fan, I was prepared to not like this book, and, well, it didn't disappoint me in that respect. This was really jumbled, as if the author had written a series of short stories years ago, and then spent about an hour tying them all together. And there was no sex! I was promised sex - that at least would have made up for the jumbled style ;-)

A tough, principled heroine in a gritty urban fantasy world. Weres, vampires and risen corpses are no secret--and just barely legal. Mystery, adventure and fantasy all tied together in one short, fast-paced book. It's good, but stop reading these books soon--they get bad fast.

As far as vampire in the open books go...I prefer Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series. I felt very lost reading Guilty Pleasures, most of the time I had no idea what was going on!

This is not a book that will change your life. It will, however, keep you very entertained for the few hours it takes you to read it.
I thought it was fun! It was a lot like the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse books (although I think it should really be the other way around, these came out first), but with a more assertive heroine (especially physically) and vampires that are heavier on the dangerous than the sexy. No one sparkled. I was thrilled.

I read this after reading and enjoying A Kiss Of Shadows by the same author. As a fan of Anne Rice, Poppy Z Brite et al, I expected to love this book and to immediatly want to hunt down the rest in the series.
Well I was disappointed. I found Antia a pretty annoying character and the whole Vampire Circus thing was so obviously a take on Rice's Theatre Des Vampires that I cringed.
Readable, but defiantly not good. ...more
