Didn't like this one as much as the last-- kind of dragged for me, but mostly because he says he has to do everything alone, which I didn't remember being a stipulation. Then he isn't alone and wow things get done. So.... yeah. I also quite understand the part about the fey dude...

Things are definitely changing in Dresden's life though and some look to be quite interesting. ...more

As Jim Butcher continues the Dresden series, the sensation of accumulated damage leading to massive shifts in the setting and characters are becoming more apparent. In Dead Beat, Dresden is put into a position where compromise is essential for his survival. The plot of the novel is a step up from Blood Rites, with stronger antagonists and a brief return of a wonderful villain. The underpinning of the plot is a story of a man taking his first step into the abyss of moral ambiguity.

Another solid entry. Doesn’t but the heights of Summer Knight and Death Masks, but very well written book nonetheless.
Great new layers of flavour added to this world as we get to learn about new magics (necromancy), and rituals and the organisational structure of the wardens 😄
Well crafted twists and turns as usual.
On to the next one!
