The most readily evident characteristic of this book is the beautiful, almost musical prose that weaves throughout the telling of this “Tale”. The world created is seductive and at times dreamlike. The characters are so well introduced and sustained that you feel that they are good friends, even as you know their weaknesses.
For these reasons only, this book is worth the effort. But other reasons also abound.

I just couldn't finish this one. The writing was lovely, and I liked the subtlety of the magic -- the fairy world is always behind the scenes, quietly beautiful and menacing.
But there were simply too many characters, too many generations to keep track of. I had a hard time figuring out who "she" or "he" referred to, as the author wasn't always clear.
I wanted to fall in love with the book, and I almost did, but it was too confusing and a little slow-moving for me. ...more
