3.5 stars, but I rounded up because there were a lot of important issues that I was happy to see a YA fantasy tackle.

Though traumatic, the abuse these girls had to go through was very real and important. The caste system and the ‘forbidden’ relationship were also important topics to cover too. And nothing felt force fed, it just flowed in with the plot and characters which was great.

LOVED this book so much!!! I thought it was amazing. Yet another book I put off reading because I wasn't sure it would be worth all the hype. It totally is worth the hype and more. I was so invested in Lei and the rest of the girls. The writer had such a smooth easy flow to her writing and it made reading it so fast.

I loved the action and the twists and turns to this book. Just when you thought it was maybe getting to slow the author would throw something else in to pique my interest. The down ...more

This is a lush tale of 8 girls that are being trained to become Paper Girls for the King ( concubines), and the ninth girl that is added to the group. Lei is from the poorest caste, but is being trained along with all the others. There is intrigue, romance, mystery, and a very engaging complement of characters.
TRIGGER WARNING there are scenes of rape written in the book.

I very much enjoyed this book ,and will look for more from this author.

I was sucked into this book from the get-go. I only had a couple of reservations about some things, but the majority of the story was amazing. Looking forward to the next one!
