I first read this at the beginning of the pandemic. This is important to point out because, after the last two years, The Raven Boys hits different.
On the one hand, there's the aspect of the strong friendships, especially between the boys. After two years keeping these friendships alive during a time of uncertainty, and of welcoming in the odd one out, the connections just seem so much more real. I really, really, really love this! I love the characters and their individual personalities, I love the relationships, I love the original basis of the ley lines and Glendower. This could so easily have been an insta-love romance, with the great magical adventure taking a back seat, but primarily, Gansey's mission and the strange happenings in Henrietta are still the most prominent plotline-as it should be! If I'm honest I would have given the narrators voice five stars alone, my gosh that man could read the dictionary and it would be magical. And I'm oh so grateful for multiple POV's, it just makes sense.
This book came out in 2012 and it's probably been on my list for as long as that, and dayum it good 10yrs later. I get why people re read this A LOT. It's weird, magical and all of the above. It's strange and I love it. The search for ...more
