This was the definition of a filler. Nothing really happened until the end of the book where you're left with a cliffhanger to make sure you're going to buy the next one. I'm still surprised at how much I didn't enjoy this book after giving five stars to Serpent & Dove and putting it in my favorites shelf...

Not sure if I want to give this 2.5 stars…I think I do.
Okay, I was actually so excited to continue this series. Book one, I really enjoyed, so I thought it would be clear that I would love this next one. But I was bored. I was disappointed. And overall, I just didn't care. I listened to the audiobooks and for some reason, I didn't love it as much this time around. There’s less banter in this one, and Lou loses her bawdiness for the most part as she moves away from shock factor. In this one she shows the lengths she’ll go to to protect those she loves, but because they’re extreme it’s not as fun and definitely reads as a darker novel than the first. There’s a lot of conflict with her and Reid as she keeps relying on her magic whenever they find themselves in trouble and he’s still anti-witch (very much a love the sinner, ha ...more
