Trying to organize my thoughts on this one is a bit difficult. This was just...slow. Not bad, but slow. I am excited for the next one in hopes that answers to all of the questions left open in this novel will happen.
This first piece of the trilogy did a very good job at creating a foundation, building the world, explaining the magic system, but that is all it did. Which is important of course, but there was nothing else really that happened. I could have used a bit more action, a bit more chara ...more

I really loved this book best Arthurian tale fiction that I have ever read I liked how different many of the characters were I also liked how familiar they seemed all at the same time. I loved the characters especially Guinevere,Lancelot,Arthur and Mordred. I liked how different Guinevere was since she is a changeling and is not the real Guinevere at all she just want to protect Arthur no matter what and to just be useful. When I started this book I was a little skeptical because I hadn’t read some of her other works before this one. I have read her science fiction work before and enjoyed it but, Mind Games is nowhere near the size of this book and nowhere near the topic. So basically I was skeptical to start it. This is one of the best books I’ve read in a while!
It completely surprised me, with its twists and turns and takes on the Arthurian legends it had me hooked from the start.
I cannot wait for the sequel, the characters are so dear to me and I love how the author has made an old legend feel new.
Also: MORDREDDDDDDDDD

Was scared to pick this up due to the mixed review but finally gave in because Kiersten White wrote one of my favourite fantasy series, the Conqueror Saga. Maybe the lowered expectation had helped when it comes to reading this book. The plot was a little slow, seeing as some plot can be guessed miles away before it was eventually revealed. It also lacks the atmospheric quality that Conqueror saga has. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel.
The setting, the characters, the twists! Wow. I loved it and I can't wait to see what happens next.
