She was Aelin Fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.
Queen of Shadows is an absolute masterpiece. Sarah J. Maas really nailed with the lead up in this book. The whole entire book I was just on the edge of my seat. There was so much going on but it was never confusing. The plot was really well thought out and connects together gloriously. Another boo ...more

I really enjoyed this but not as much as the second and third. I felt it was too long but as to what should have been cut, I can’t tell you. I did listen to this on audio, but although the narrator was very good, I found it more engrossing when I actually read it with my eyes! This time my preferred story arc was the witches.

I thought that the first book of the series was the best, but I must admit that I was wrong. For now, this one's the best. The writing style is much more serious, even the love parts are more serious, and there is more tension this book.

I love these characters so much! Aelin is so badass and I love how she perseveres no matter what and always helps others. She and Rowan are so cute together and I'm happy they found each other. Aelin's relationship with Aedion is so sweet. They're as close as siblings and that family bond makes me smile. Mannon is pretty awesome as well. The fierce leader of the thirteen yet still has compassion. These strong females are great and the magic part of the story is cool too. I'm really looking forwa

In this book, Celaena embraces her original name and role as Aelin. We also learn more about many of the other characters who are evolving during this turmoil. Although I liked getting to know these characters better, I felt that this one moved slowly. It was a bit of a let down after Heir of Fire, but I am still interested in the series.

06/17/2024: I still feel meh about this book. I did like Manon's character better this time. The book feels like an ending and I probably should have just let this series go.
05/12/2020: I really wanted to love this story but for some reason I can't. (view spoiler) This book definitely pushes the idea of duty. I'm not sure if I like that thinking. It took me about a month ...more
