I don't see how it would be possible for me to give this less than full stars. Not only did it launch a genre of books, but it really is that well done, at least for me. And the full cast narration on Audible is fantastic (I read along with the narration). It's been years since I first read this and it's every bit as creepy the second time around. Still a Classic
I wanted to re-read this as it had been some time since I last read it. I think it still holds up pretty well. Better than some other vampire books I could name *cough*Twilight*cough*
Some of the dialogue can be cheesy to modern ears but when he set a scene he certainly set a scene!
With all the praying they do it still makes me laugh that my aunt once called this book Satanic. It is anything but. Evil is not attractive. It has bad breath and stinks. There is nothing of the 'sexy' ...more

Though I almost hated it for its stiff Victorian style, it ended up being one of the scariest books I've ever read. This is probably the only book that ever gave me nightmares.
