Rereading the entire series so I can FINALLY read the last book, I’ve forgotten too much to just dive into Kingdom of Ash so i’m refreshing my memory (and really enjoying doing so).

Me encantó! Tuvo de todo un poco, buena historia, acción, romance... Me gusta el personaje de Celaena muchas veces es fuerte y sarcásticas y otras veces es totalmente lo opuesto una chica entregada a la lectura que se convierte en una niña cuando se trata de golosinas y se derrite tontamente soñando con el amor sin aminorar sus habilidades para matar, es tan contradictorio como interesante...

This book was bloody fantastic...... That duel was brilliant I'm super buzzed for this series right now. Chaol and Celaena all the way love Dorian but just has to be Chaol.... super in love with everything about this I literally think I could ramble for hours about my love for this book. ...more

Wow!! What a thrilling book. I normally rely on a good romance storyline to keep me interested in these types of novels, but in this books case it was so not necessary. I’ve seen so many good reviews of this series and now I’ve finally started reading it myself. This book was great and I really liked it. The most engrossing thing about it is the world. Sarah J.Maas created an unusual universe which somewhat resembles Middle Ages. After tons of books about our modern world I was pleased to read something new like this one. This world is well thought out and there was even a map of it in the book! The names confused me at first. They were unfamiliar and difficult I’ve seen so many good reviews of this series and now I’ve finally started reading it myself. This book was great and I really liked it. The most engrossing thing about it is the world. Sarah J.Maas created an unusual universe which somewhat resembles Middle Ages. After tons of books about our modern world I was pleased to read something new like this one. This world is well thought out and there was even a map of it in the book! The names confused me at first. They were unfamiliar and difficult to pronounce but eventually I got used to them. Actually they make this series more unusual and outstanding. Also the main concept is interesting and catching. For instance, the extraordinary idea of making the main character an assassin. This already sounds intriguing. The plot with competition to find the King’s Champion was exciting and, intertwined with cruel murders, even absorbing. Moreover, I couldn’t not appreciate the fact that the main characters are bookworms. When Celaena said she didn’t need any company if she had books, I wanted to shake her hand. This and her night reading are evidence that she is one of us.

However, there are some things about this book I didn’t like. The first is the relationships between main characters. They seemed weird to me and throughout the majority of the book I was like “What the hell is going on?”. Thank God it wasn’t a love triangle to the full extent. In the first half of the book Celaena and Chaol were reminding me of Romitri from Vampire Academy. They quarreled a lot and sneered at each other but in the second half their relations became better as the captain began to trust Celaena more. What really confused me is the relationship between Celaena and Dorian. Why the hell was it needed to draw them together and to set them apart at the end of the book? What’s the point? To my mind this love story was irrelevant if they wouldn’t be together anyway. Generally, I don’t ship Celaena neither with Chaol nor with Dorian but if I had to choose, I’d give my preference to Chaol. Also the first half of the book seemed a bit boring to me: there wasn’t too much action and a lot of characters. But the second one was way better as the plot began to develop and more characters appeared.

Nevertheless, I don’t regret reading this book at all and I’m looking forward to reading the next ones. I’m really curious to know what will happen next! ...more

I loved this book.

I loved the characters, the setting, the plot, the writing - everything. In Throne of Glass, Maas has created an entirely unique and exciting new fantasy world that draws you in and ensures that you will want to keep reading.

I am such a sucker for some good, witty dialogue. It brings such life to the story and the characters, and makes them appear much more real to me. Maas provides excellent banter between Celaena, Dorian, and Review can be found at Forever Lost in Literature.

I loved this book.

I loved the characters, the setting, the plot, the writing - everything. In Throne of Glass, Maas has created an entirely unique and exciting new fantasy world that draws you in and ensures that you will want to keep reading.

I am such a sucker for some good, witty dialogue. It brings such life to the story and the characters, and makes them appear much more real to me. Maas provides excellent banter between Celaena, Dorian, and Chaol, and it's wonderful. And you know another reason I love witty dialogue? It keeps me hooked. It keeps me reading page after page without realizing I'm reading that much. To me, that is the sign of a good book.

But it was more than just dialogue that kept me hooked on Throne of Glass. It was the setting and the plot, also. This had such a unique premise to me, and I think that is also what really enticed me with this book. I enjoyed reading about the various challenges that the champions had to perform in, as well as reading about Celaena's own personal life and struggles with herself, the people around her, and the political frustrations. Everything melds together and provides a very harmonious plot and conflicts.

The characters are also wonderfully portrayed. They have extreme depth and undergo a vast amount of development. Celaena herself undergoes so much change in just this novel alone. She arrives from a prison camp, where he has been brutally kept and beaten, forced to work hard with little to eat, and no shelter from the elements. Understandably, she is cold; she is emotionless, and she does not want to be at the palace. However, as the novel progresses, so does Celaena. We begin to see more sides of her. She does not ever completely lose her outer shell of protection that she has formed, but we learn understand her and her need for such protection. Another wonderful thing about Maas' portrayal of Celaena is that even though she is an extremely powerful, terrifying assassin who could kill you before you even know what's happening, is that she's relatable and realistic. She loves books, for goodness sake! She loves food, she whines and complains.

And then we have Dorian and Chaol, the two men that are most prominent in Celaena's life. (That is, if you aren't counting the King, who is technically the entire reason why Celaena and this story are even happening). These men are very different, yet very similar. They both have extremely different roles in the palace - Dorian is the King's son, and Chaol is the King's Guard. There also is, of course, a slight love triangle that is begins to bubble in the love-triangle cauldron, but it does not ever take center-stage in the story. In fact, it's almost more of a side-thought. Celaena is not a typical man-obsessed character, and has better things to worry about than any man. (Although, I'm not sure how you couldn't not think about Chaol or Dorian all the time...)

Overall, I immensely enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to just about everyone. It will receive the magical five-star rating from me. ...more

This book was a disappointment for me. I couldn't make out Celeana's personality she went from a badass assassin to an annoying winey 5 year old in a heartbeat. This book would've been great if it wasn't for all the high school drama. I hope Crown Of Midnight turns out better *That, if I decided to ever give this series another shot* ...more

Maddie Croox's 'Bookish Bingo Challenge': Book 1: Read a book with a kickass female heroine

This was, in short, the most AMAZING way to start off my 2015 reading challenge. I am in love with this book, and I am in love with the characters.
Celaena is such a freaking badass. All the way through, I just wanted to BE her. She's so confident and sassy and just like, the epitome of cool and awesome and amazing and every other synonym of the word.

Considering how much hype I had heard about this novel and been told "Oh Jamie you will love this, it is right up your alley" it was not that great. It had a great build up and the first 10% of the novel was really interesting, but it got too bogged down in politics. I think the testing needed to move along faster than it actually did to be able to keep my attention. There was too much in this first novel about what the rest would entail that it made this first novel really dense with information about a back story that the reader had yet to come across or even care about.

The world building was horrible, in my opinion. Probably because there was a lack of it. If you are going to tell me a race has been completely abolished from the world, tell me why and how the bring them back permanently. This novel made it obvious that while the characters and King and everyone in the world thought the fae were completely extinct, they are not.

The use of magic in this novel was different. But teetering on bad different. The rituals were strange and the idea behind a set of symbols that only certain characters with certain historical background would know irks me for some reason. That's probably nit-picky but if I am going to read a fantasy novel, I want it to make sense.

I can already sense an unnecessary love triangle and I am not pleased by it. I would be more okay with it if it didn't seem like
Celaena was choosing between a life of fun and danger and one of settling. I don't see why authors think it is appealing to "choose" between the fun guy that you would sneak around with and the boring one that you would bring home to mom. Why can't they both have these aspects to them? Or better yet, just have one guy who embodies both and don't make the heroine into some love sick puppy.

Overall: 3/5 stars. I will be continuing the series because I have heard such good things about it, but so far I'm underwhelmed. Also I have to decide if I want to stick with ebooks or buy paperbacks/hardcovers so I have been dragging my feet because I don't have the next one yet. ...more
