Straightforward and plain spoken gothic horror. Lots of NY 60s cultural detail, some nostalgic, some that will make you cringe. A feminist nightmare. Good. Ira Levin apparently didn't think it was his best work (though aside from The Stepford Wives, it was probably his biggest success), but there's something to it that's weirdly moving. And obviously, suitable as an October read. ...more
