I can't understand America's fascination with Thoreau. To me he comes off as an arrogant know-it-all. To him there are two ways of thinking: his way and the wrong way. And I find nothing special about his writing or writing style. I read Thoreau in college and didn't like him then. But I thought my attitude towards him might have changed with my maturity as a reader. It didn't.
