The Island of Dr Moreau is good old science fic with a mad scientist & philosophical fic asking what it takes to be a human, questioning existence of God/religion, and ethics of animal experimentation. At least that's my take on it.

H.G Wells is bae. Great story about playing God and even the creation of religion

This is a clever and disturbing story. I found it reminiscent of Lord of the Flies but almost in reverse. The description of the hybrid beast-men is graphic enough to be unpleasant, yet the creatures still retain enough humanity to be sympathetic. A thought provoking read.

Gave me Jekyll and Hyde meets Lord of the Flies meets Animal Farm meets Hound of the Baskerville vibes. It was obviously written some time ago so words, terms, and some concepts used could now seem pretty offensive, rightly so. But story-wise I found it interesting, especially on a psychological level. Though the story ultimately didn’t have as satisfying a character progression or journey as I would of hoped.

I know I've read this years ago, this time listened In the car and really enjoyed. Always liked HG Wells, especially if I can suppress my modern science knowledge and appreciate the level of science he was working with. Especially since he always keeps the focus on humanity in relation to his science, he has themes that survive changing technology ...more
