«It’s my chance, I suppose, she thought; I’m being given a last chance. I could turn my car around right here and now in front of these gates and go away from here, and no one would blame me. Anyone has a right to run away.»

I really wanted to like this book. I don’t know if it was the pacing, the characters, the genre, or just the story itself but something about it was just not that engaging. The tension just wasn’t there for me. I was confused for a good bit of the time, the character dynamics were all over the place (which is part of the story, but like I could barely follow it). Just overall not a huge fan, sorry.

Beautiful, beautiful. Weirdly saucy too, featuring a love scene that basically seems snuck in, for the 1950s. Jackson is such a good writer. For some reason the story lost my attention in the last 1/3 but who even cares.
