What Members Thought
Twins had to read this for school and so I thought I'd read it with them. Glad I did. Saw the movie as a kid but the book was so much better. A story about change and what humans are capable of. The theme of overcoming runs rampant in this story, with Mary, the little girl arriving at Misselthwaite Manor skinny, rude, and lonely to the sickly cripple, Colin, the boy of the manor, to the closed in, broken-hearted father and master of the manor, Archibald Craven. The infamous Mary, Mary, Quite contrary became as such a spoiled child. Yet by the end she was caring and dedicated to her work (she learned to do work!) and her friendships with Dicken and Collin, who I can't imagine her wanting to associate with before.
Dicken was probably my favorite character. I can just imagine him rolling his eyes as these spoiled rich kids, but being too happy and kind to do so. I think he was such a good influence on both his friends.
