This story begins in 1897 during the gold rush in the Klondike region of the Yukon. The demand for strong sled dogs was greater than the available supply, so numerous dogs were kidnapped from distant lands and brought to Alaska to fill the need. Buck, the narrator of this wonderfully-told story, is one of these kidnapped dogs. This is the first time I have read this one, and I am really happy I finally got to it. It took me only a couple hours to read it, and I don't think I even put it down. London's famous "dog story" about Buck, a dog who is stolen away from his cush lifestyle and thrown into the wilderness amongst sled dogs teaches us a lot about what is innate in all of us.
