The first edition of this book came out in 1930. I didn't know Mary Poppins was that old. Disney made the film into a much brighter and enjoyable experience. I kept wanting to hear the songs when the story got to certain places. I hated the way the narrator sounded when she called, "Feed the birds," it was a very grating sound. Pretty bizarre. Travers does a good job of playing with well known ideas and concepts - turning them on their heads.
I thoroughly enjoyed the wackiness, it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland in that respect. Really gets the imagination going. However the book read to me as more of a collection of individual stories or events rather than a cohesive story which progressed in any meaningful way.
