This came up on my classic book podcast, making it my car book for this week. I was never much of Peter Pan fan, the Disney classic was never a favorite of mine, not have I had any interest in the more recent movie remakes/retellings of the tale. The audio recording left me cold. Perhaps it was just my lack of attention, but the story felt jumpy and disjointed. I had a desire to turn it off, but I also wanted to see how it ended - was it all going to be a dream? was Neverland a real dream land? ...more

It's a product of its time. I wouldn't let children read this book by themselves, there's a lot that needs explanation, esp female role in society then and now, why Peter acts the way he does (the violence and deceit) etc. ...more

My sister got me J.M Barrie's Peter Pan complete and unabridged for my thirteenth birthday. I was very disappointed because I thought it was a Boys' book, I never liked the Peter Pan computer games or the cartoon; and I didn't want to read it but she begged me to.

So I read it and Peter Pan is not a boy's book. It's a book about magic, adventure, childhood, dogs, mermaids, tribes, pirates, clocks, thimbles, shadows, suitcases, windows, and noses. I especially liked the dialogue between Wendy an ...more
