I'd watched the series on PBS bur never read the book (delayed childhood). Better yet since I'd seen the series and could imagine the characters. Recommended for all ages. A story of an orphan on Prince Edward Island in Canada, adopted by an older couple. That's all I'm gonna tell ya. You'll love it! ...more

Dramatisation of the LM Montgomery novel about an impetuous red-headed girl. with Barbara Barnes.

1/5. A couple expect to adopt an orphan boy - not an impetuous red-headed girl.

2/5. The Cuthberts send the feisty girl off to school, but trouble lies ahead.

3/5. Anne meets a kindred spirit, gets cooking - and nearly kills herself.

4/5. Anne has a very bad hair day - and resolves never to be romantic again.

5/5. Anne goes away to college - but her heart is still in Avonlea.

YOUTH FICTION AT ITS BEST.

I had never read the Anne of Green Gables series, but it is one of my daughter's favorites. So, although I don't generally enjoy ready young adult and youth books now, I decided that I was going to see what the fuss was all about. And my daughter is right. This book was wonderfully written. The descriptive way L. M. Montgomery writes gave life to the characters and let me fall in love with Anne just as Marilla and Matthew did. As Anne talked - and talked and talked - a ...more

Why oh why didn’t I write a review back when I read this wonderful book!! I know I loved it. … I gave it 5 stars and I feel love for Anne and Marilla when I think of this book. I also love every TV version I have seen.
When I was a young girl our older next door neighbors gave me the book and I believe I still have it.
Please, read it and share it with others.
