What Members Thought
Somehow this book just captured my heart. The outcasts isolated in the house in Cerulean Sea are very charming (Lucy the Antichrist, Sal the shapeshifter, Talia the lady gnome, Chauncey the indescribable, etc).
I thought in the beginning that this will be a cliche, a story about a change of heart (a cold hearted government official found his family at last)- but turned out it's very warm, well written, with a touch of humor and lots of heartbreaking moments.

This is the warm and fuzzy book we all need right now! Reading this book feels like a safe and comforting hug when the world feels scary. T.J. Kline’s novel defies category: it feels like YA, with lessons to learn and hope to offer, but the protagonist is a 40-year-old man. Basically, this is perfect for adults who love YA novels; if you’re a Debbie Downer who only wants something dark and dreary, this is not for you.
Cozy and lighthearted, but with a big message throughout. Acceptance, creating a big life, celebrating differences and family is who you decide it to be are ideas explored through a tale of unusual children in an isolated orphanage. Very different than anything I normally read and just sweet, at times too much for my dark heart 😂
