Magical children, including a girl gnome named Talia, and a 6 year-old boy named Lucy who is the Antichrist. Amazing. Truth is, I have a son affectionately known as Lucy, who at age 6 was devilish indeed. This book was so delightful and unexpected. I’ve seen buzz about it, but honestly never looked past the cover. I should have looked closer to see the blurb on the cover saying “it is like being wrapped up in a big gay blanket” - it is kind of a perfect way to describe this lovely book.

My heart. I've loved T.J. Klune ever since my friend Dennis introduced me to Bear, Otter, and the Kid. This book cements my love for T.J. Klune.

I don't even know how to describe this book. It's about this 40 year old caseworker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth assigned a top secret case by Extremely Upper Management. This case will send him to Marsyas Island and a house filled with children who have been tol

This book was a balm for my soul as I come to the end of a very trying quarantine year. I listened to it on audio while planting dahlias all day. Listening to it, while doing one of my favorite things offered me an escape to a world filled with hope. It touched my heart. More specifically the characters touched my heart. The book follow Linus Baker, a follow the rules, lonely, middle age government worker in a world where some people have magical abilities. His job is to report on an orphanage f ...more

I liked the quirky characters in this book. It’s the coming-of-age genre but for a mid-forty year old. Creative and enjoyable. Although it looks like a middle reader book, and has kid characters I would recommend it more for adults.

The most beautiful fairy tale. With a beautiful comment at the end that uses the word ‘undocumented’ as a multiple metaphor. This book makes me want to dance.
