I didn't know about this book until I saw on "2020 in Goodreads" posts of my friends and that's a shame! This is a great story! Surely, it is similar to a couple of other books but the way the story is told is unique!

I absolutely loved the characters and the plot building of this tale. The tale is slightly dystopian with removing children from their families owing to their "unnaturalness" and then completely forgetting about them. The orphanages are routinely visited by government officials and their fate alone with the children hinges on the subsequent reports.

I don't know where to start with how much I love this book. I sort of knew what to expect, but not really, it turned out. The less you know going in, the better! I'll say that this book had me howling with laughter, getting happy-weepy, heartbreak-weepy, and falling head over heels for a (seemingly) bureaucratic caseworker, a kindly orphanage master, and six amazing children, who are unlike any characters I've ever encountered. What a charming book and cast of characters. I found myself laughing out loud many times and tearing up with the compassion of the characters. In what has been a month of mass shootings and police killing unarmed boys and men, this lovely story reminded me that hearts can be good.
