Shelves: fiction, uk, mysteries
I read this as a part of a reading challenge: "a book with a question in the title." I probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise; there are many more contemporary and many more classic mysteries. This one was entertaining, but there is some dialogue that, though it seems, from my perspective in time many years after it was written, to be mocking people who are racist, seems dated and possible to interpret differently, partially because it seems unnecessary to the story and erodes the staying ...more

I could not continue with this book due to the incredible amount anti-semitism. It may have been acceptable in 1923 but it's off putting today. ...more
