In a world where love, or amor deliria nervosa as it's called, is labelled a disease and banned, people are cured at the age of 18 to prevent any nasty encounters.
The result is a dystopic future where the USA has closed it's borders, forever. This combined with curfews, archaic rules surrounding youths and segregation of the sexes and a world where you're given your 'life partner' list at an evaluation when you're in late high school. In this environment, a young woman, Lena, just a few months a ...more

Have you ever sighed over the romance of Romeo and Juliet? If so - you're in danger of being infected, and as Lena will tell you, in the world created within the pages of Delirium, infection is the worst thing that could happen to you.

One of the best books I've read all year. A great storyline, interesting characters, and writing that never feels bogged down. Can't wait to read the sequel!

This was an enjoyable twist on the dystopian genre. The story isnt spectacular but there is a lyricism in Oliver's writing that I believe saves the story somewhat. I enjoyed this book a good deal, though I don't know if it was the best book I've read this summer. It took awhile for the story to get going and get exciting, but it ended up that way. It was on the predictable side, maybe because I've read a lot of YA dystopic books lately. I look forward to reading the second installment.
