The premise of this book is almost mind-bendingly stupid. Apparently, in the future, the compromise between pro-life and pro-choice is that all children must be born, but at age 13, they can be "unwound" and their body harvested to provide needed body parts to other people. Obviously, this "compromise" makes no sense and would make no one happy, and it's well-nigh impossible to imagine anyone agreeing to unwind even their most unpleasant pre-teen. So, seriously stupid.

But, if you can get past th

I freaking loved this book. I loved all of the characters in it. Lev was a little shit at first but he grew on me. I even ended up feeling sympathy towards Roland by the end of the book. I did not expect that at all. There are so many great YA dystopian books out there right now. But I hope this book does not get lost in the sauce. It should definitely be given a chance and I will be recommending this book to everybody I know who enjoys this genre.

So, this book is filled with AWESOME.

One day, while browsing the local bookstore with the boyfriend, I got caught up chatting with a teenaged reader about the stack of books she was holding. I WISH I COULD THANK THAT GIRL.

This book is... stunning. It's beautiful and tragic and terrifyi

Really compelling teen title. Could see how teens would eat this up as readers--plus has lots of meaty issues for them to talk about, think about (when does life begin/capital punishment/meaning of life/etc.)

Protagonists that readers can root for too...Shusterman has a lot to say.

Why didn't I give it a 5? Little too contrived in spots--don't want to reveal plot points, but some of what happens feels predictable and maybe a little over the top. More my fault as a reader who could see certain plot

Strong start, and I wanted to read it. I got about 9 chapters in. But the world is too tough to deal with right now. Maybe another time.
