A very famous classic book (with equally famous movie adaptation) about Celie, a black woman living in American Southern state during the 1940s. It's full of heartbreaking moments, because Celie's life is so hard since the beginning: molested and raped by her stepfather, losing her mom, separated with her beloved sister Nettie, forced to marry a jerk, and.. fell in love with an impossible woman.

I started this book years ago, but had to put it back on my bookshelf because I wasn’t in an emotional state to be able to handle something heavy...and this book is HEAVY right off the bat. I can't believe it took me so long to pick this up, but now I'm terribly sad I've already finished it. Celie and Nettie and Shug and Sofia feel like family. I loved this so, so much.
