I intended to listen to this book as I went to sleep, but wouldn’t you know it, I couldn’t turn it off until it was finished. The British audiobook narrator is exceptionally good with the accents and voices. Can’t beat the Queen of Crime (except of course for the casual racism, antisemitism, and homophobia).

I was inspired to read this after watching some of the BBC Poirot mysteries, with the amazing David Suchet as Poirot. This is the first Hercule Poirot mystery and while adequate, it is not my favorite of Christie’s. It kept me guessing and was a quick read but the characters were mostly awful and Poirot is such a blowhard. I’ll keep making my way through her canon but this one was a bit meh.
Agatha Christie is so comfortable and predictable and demands so little from me. A perfect rebound book.
The first of Christie's Poirot books is a good one, but they get even better after this.
