This is really interesting, and Aziz Ansari is funny, I enjoyed it A LOT more than I thought I would!! But it also feels padded, and Ansari is trying too hard to be funny sometimes. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

Also, I want to commend Ansari for being a fantastic feminist - it never feels like he's trying, but like it is his natural reaction, and it is awesome.

(Disclaimer, this quote is not from the book. It's just awesome.)

I'm both amused and confused by Aziz's apparent conviction that I am lazy

I enjoyed this more than I was expecting to! I'm often disappointed by standup comedian books (although I keep reading them) because I'm like, this is just your standup written down, and I already saw your standup act. This was something different--it did overlap a bit with his bits where he reads audience member standup comedy but in this case I felt like it built off of and enhanced the standup act, rather than just replicating it.

The pop-sociology about choice and dating wasn't totally new to

3.5 rounded up to 4 due to the fact that I did the audiobook and having Aziz read to me was lovely. It was interesting for me to listen to this book, as I met my husband online (over 12 years ago). This was before online dating. We met via a messageboard where mutual interests brought us into the same corner of the internet. So, learning what it takes to foster modern online dating in the world of smartphones was way different than AIM conversations and phone calls after 7 PM because free nights ...more

This was quite a fun read, especially if you're an Aziz Ansari fan (and why wouldn't you be, really?). I appreciated that a celebrity actually undertook a research project not directly-related to the TV show he's currently working on (and all credit to Eric Klinenberg, the sociologist who guided him through it). Given that I never really online dated - just missed that cultural phenomenon, mostly because of geography - it was just as fascinating to read about some of the basically-pointless norm ...more

Ansari looks at how technology has changed the ways we meet, date, relate, and marry one another. His section on Japan was the most interesting to me. Very frank and occasionally humorous.

An easy, funny read. No major surprises (except the part about Japan), but still an interesting topic in general.

I really liked this book! Aziz and his team aptly capture the conundrum of choices faced by today's single folks and provide some simple ways to sort through the quagmire in a more meaningful way. I really wish this book was rated higher by everyone else - it's well researched and written. I laughed out a few times too. I especially loved his conclusion chapter, given the hopeful tone in which it is written. More people should read this surely! ...more

Started reading this after hearing Aziz on This American Life and it was already on my TBR shelf.

Not a ton of shocking new information and felt like some repetition. Interesting read, though. Made me think about my past dating life and was amusing to hear the anecdotes from the people in their focus group.

Audiobooked this one as I am tending to do with celebrity non-fiction.
