I enjoyed this more than I was expecting to! I'm often disappointed by standup comedian books (although I keep reading them) because I'm like, this is just your standup written down, and I already saw your standup act. This was something different--it did overlap a bit with his bits where he reads audience member standup comedy but in this case I felt like it built off of and enhanced the standup act, rather than just replicating it.

The pop-sociology about choice and dating wasn't totally new to

This was moderately interesting, and I was hoping that hearing Aziz Ansari read it out loud would elevate the material, but meh. I didn't like the voices that he did for some of the comments, I felt it de-legitimatized the people's thoughts/feelings and gave a fakeness that I didn't like. And why did he need to call me lazy *multiple times* for choosing the audiobook? For YOU, Aziz!!! Yeesh.
This book made me VERY happy that I met my husband and got married before texting really "took off". And I

Really interesting read and not what I expected. I thought this was the author's version of a Tina Fey, Amy Poehler essay type book, it's not. It is a true look at modern dating (Tinder, texting, social media etc.) he visits 3-4 foreign countries and also examines the cultural differences in modern dating. Overall, really enjoyable. I also highly recommend his Netflix series- Master of None. ...more

Ansari looks at how technology has changed the ways we meet, date, relate, and marry one another. His section on Japan was the most interesting to me. Very frank and occasionally humorous.

This was pretty decent. It would admittedly have been more interesting to me if I had been on a date in the past decade. Despite this, I still found it to be an interesting glimpse into single life these days.

Don't pick up this book if you're looking for an extended, written version of Ansari's recent standup special which definitely references the work he did for this book.

This is not so much a comedy book as a sociology book with a couple silly jokes in it. The book was a commendable and ser

I was expecting this to be a comedy book, but it ended up being much more. The blend of studies cited and anecdotal evidence, combined with Ansari's humor made this a winner. The book makes me appreciate that I'm no longer in the dating world in this age of social media. If you are in that world, this book provides a sane way to navigate through it. ...more

I really liked this book! Aziz and his team aptly capture the conundrum of choices faced by today's single folks and provide some simple ways to sort through the quagmire in a more meaningful way. I really wish this book was rated higher by everyone else - it's well researched and written. I laughed out a few times too. I especially loved his conclusion chapter, given the hopeful tone in which it is written. More people should read this surely! ...more

I very much got this out from the library just because it's by Aziz Ansari. I assumed it was going to be a funny memoir a la "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" by Mindy Kaling, and that the title was just a title. It turns out it's kind of a sociology book. Kind of. Very funny, would recommend. Definitely would recommend the audiobook because Ansari is a really funny guy, and he does silly voices sometimes. ...more
