I actually read this when it first came out. I cannot remember the date.
Strange book....thought the beginning was brilliant....it got bogged down in the middle ...and then an excellent finale. It hasn't been that long since I read Infinite Jest, which has a lot of similarities with this novel...and had to deal with the similar endless footnotes and exhibits...which at first are fun...and then become tedious. I do think the work could be more enjoyable if it were shortened.
